What brings people from Hornsey to therapy

There's rarely one single reason someone reaches out. Often it's a mix of things that have built up over time. A few of the most common:

  • Anxiety — Racing thoughts, difficulty switching off, a low hum of dread that doesn't always have an obvious cause.
  • Low mood and depression — Going through the motions. Feeling disconnected from things that used to matter, or from people close to you.
  • Trauma — Not always a single dramatic event. Sometimes it's a pattern from years ago still shaping how you react now. This is where EMDR tends to make the biggest difference.
  • Burnout and overwhelm — Work, family, relationships, all pulling at once, with no space left to actually process any of it.

If none of these quite describe it, that's fine too. A first call is a good place to talk it through.

How I work

I draw on three main approaches, often blending them depending on what someone needs:

Counselling

A talking therapy space to think out loud, unpick what's going on, and be genuinely heard without judgment.

EMDR

A structured method for processing trauma and difficult memories that talking alone doesn't always shift. Particularly effective when something from the past keeps resurfacing in the present.

Hypnotherapy

Works with the subconscious mind to support change where willpower and logic haven't been enough on their own.

Stress and overwhelm

None of these are quick fixes. They're tools for getting to the root of something, rather than managing it on the surface.

FAQ's

What you need to know about starting counselling in Crouch End

How many sessions will I need?

It varies a lot from person to person. Some people work through what they came for in a matter of weeks. Others prefer ongoing, longer-term support. We'll review this together as we go, rather than committing to a fixed number upfront.

What's the first session actually like?

It's a conversation, not an assessment. We'll talk about what's brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and get a feel for whether we're a good fit to work together.

Will what I say stay private?

Yes, with very few legal exceptions around safety. You can speak openly.

Can we meet online instead of in person?

Yes — many clients mix the two, or work entirely over video call depending on what suits them.

What if it's not working for me?

Tell me. I'd rather have that conversation directly and help you find a better fit than let you sit through sessions that aren't helping.
